Hostage Press International is a small publishing house located in the old capital of Thailand, 70 km. north of Bangkok. We specialize in quality fiction about or relating to Thailand. Our operation began in 2003 with the publication of David Young’s Fast Eddie's Lucky 7 A-Go-Go and hopes to expand by publishing other authors in the future. About David Young
David Young published his first short story when he was 21. Since then, his stories and poems have appeared in Chicago based small press magazines such as Bluff City, Ditto Magazine, and Strong Coffee. After a move to Seattle, he continued his publishing efforts through a chapbook of poetry entitled Old Girlfriends Should Be Placed On A Pyre And Burned, as well as Pasadena After Hours, a comic book he wrote and illustrated. In 1996, Young moved to Thailand. There, his stories took on a new direction. His first novel, The Scribe, (DK Books, 2000) is a farcical account of a man who writes letters on behalf of Bangkok prostitutes. His follow up, Thailand Joy (DK Books, 2001) details the rise and fall of Mantana against the neon backdrop of Pattaya. After a three-year hiatus and a break with his former publishing company, Young is back with Fast Eddie's Lucky 7 A-Go-Go which focuses on a group of Chiang Mai ex-pats, hookers, madmen, and saints who are seeking something bigger than what life has to offer.
Through a partnership with his friend, Geoffrey Smith of LookatLao Studio, Young’s unpublished novel The Hot Season will be exclusively available for online readers beginning in July, 2004.
In 2005 Young produced Sukhumvit Road which is quickly becoming a Bangkok bestseller and 2006 brings the release of Bangkok Dick.
Young currently resides in Ayutthaya with his wife and cat. Actually, the cat ran away.
